It was an early morning for everyone, but each member of the Canes for a Cure team was upbeat and excited to be a part of the incredible event. We had four team members run the competitive race at 7:00 a.m., the majority of our team participated in the 5K walk at 8:45 a.m. and a few of our younger teammates participated in Stormy’s Kids Dash.
I was not able to run this year, so I sat at the finish line and watched each runner complete the competitive 5K. It gave me chills to watch as they announced each breast cancer survivor as they ran through the finish line. The excitement and joy in each survivor’s face as they finished the race captured the reason why we were all out on Hillsborough street on a Saturday morning. It was a race to prevent breast cancer, encourage those who are currently battling the disease, celebrate those that have fought and conquered the cancer, and remember those that we have lost.
Thank you to every Carolina Hurricanes fan that has either donated to our team or participated with us on Saturday. Our Canes for a Cure team has raised $3,970 and we are hoping to increase our team total before the July 16 deadline. Please consider donating to Canes for a Cure today.
