NHL Draft Viewing Party

Friday, June 24 - Rudino’s Sports Corner on Edwards Mill and Duraleigh

This was an action-packed event last year and we expect the same again on Friday. Not many people would have predicted when Jeff Skinner’s name was announced last June, he was months away from an appearance in the All-Star game, a 30-goal season and a Calder Trophy nomination. But we witnessed it as a group at Rudino’s Sports Corner as Ron Francis gave us and the restaurant a shout out nationally on Versus. We are doing it again this year.

This event is non-stop activity from the get go. As many of you know, we recently celebrated our 5th anniversary of the Canes Stanley Cup win. In its honor, we will show the third period of Game 7 vs. Edmonton starting at 6:15 p.m. After five years and countless viewings, I cannot watch the conclusion without the hair on my arms standing up. Odd visual, but you get my point - it gives you goose bumps!

At 7:00 p.m. the draft begins and we will be joined by Hurricanes television voice John Forslund. Combining the national coverage on Versus with Forslund’s knowledge from a Canes and league-wide perspective, his addition makes it a must attend for all Caniacs. Having John in the building gave our fans insight you cannot gain watching from home. He will stay with us through the Canes pick at No. 12. In addition to draft talk, John will offer some insight on the Canes upcoming campaign and be up for questions you all may have.

But we don’t stop there - Stormy will be there with his antics, the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad will be attendance to mingle with our fans and Ron the Ref will be leading the charge on a variety of games, contests and trivia (on a side note, Forslund and the Ref were great together on stage at last year's party, a must-see tandem!). This includes our draft pick challenge where fans guess what players will land where. Last year’s winner took home the first Jeff Skinner jersey produced by our team store and the top prize will again be a jersey of our first pick).

So what else? We will be raffling off autographs, t-shirts, hats and other merchandise from the team store. Also, fans will have the opportunity to partake in an incredible enter-to-win opportunity for free - that night’s winner will receive autographed photos of the following former Canes first round draft picks - Staal, Ward, Sutter, Boychuk and Skinner. One entry per person, must be a resident of Caniac Nation to apply.

Overall it is an event that relieves our past in 2006 and as a group we will get a glimpse of the future.

I CAN’T WAIT to see everyone later this week. I hope everyone is having a solid day.
