Kids 'N Community Foundation to Donate $254,405

Grants awarded to 27 local organizations

RALEIGH, NC – Doug Warf, Senior Director of Marketing for the Carolina Hurricanes and Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced that the Kids ‘N Community Foundation has completed its fall grant process and will donate $254,405 to 27 different children’s charitable organizations of the Triangle and North Carolina.

The fall grant cycle is the first of two grant cycles for the 2011-12 season. This year, the Hurricanes will continue to support many returning organizations, and have added four new groups to the grant process. Among the new recipients, the Durham Nativity School received a commitment to outfit their school library. Funding from the Hurricanes will provide an e-reader and four e-books to each student to help expand the library’s resources.

The 27 fall grant recipients are: Hospice of Wake County, Special Olympics North Carolina, Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA, North Carolina Arts in Action, North Carolina Theatre, First Tee of the Triangle, Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, StepUp Ministry, Ronald McDonald House of Durham, The CORRAL Riding Academy, Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines, Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities, Communities in Schools of Durham, Triangle Youth Hockey of NC, Kramden Institute, New Voices Foundation, Marbles Kids Museum – Center Ice Exhibit, John Avery Boys and Girls Club, Triangle Special Hockey Association, Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Boys and Girls Club of Wake County, The Hill Center, Inc., Triangle United Soccer Association, Communities in Schools of Wake County, Durham Nativity School, Foster Friends of NC and Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem. The donations are made possible by overwhelming support from Carolina Hurricanes fans, players and management through year-long fundraising efforts at Kids ‘N Community Foundation events and auctions.

The Carolina Hurricanes Kids ‘N Community Foundation provides much needed funding to children’s charities and education programs throughout North Carolina. The Foundation has funded scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, children’s health programs, the arts and other children’s related initiatives. Annually, the Foundation provides cash and in-kind contributions of more than $1 million to charitable and educational programs in North Carolina. Every member of the Hurricanes organization is actively involved in community activities and the Hurricanes take great pride in the ability to have a positive impact in our state.
