Colder weather usually signals the start of the holiday season, but yesterday, temperatures were in the 70s. Never the less, this is Thanksgiving week, so the holiday season has officially begun. I love the months of November and December because it seems like everyone is more willing to give than receive. We have an opportunity this week for each Carolina Hurricanes fan to not only give, but to receive through our annual canned food drive.

The canned food that is donated by loyal Hurricanes fans will be distributed evenly between the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle serves seven counties in North Carolina and assists over 165,450 people living in poverty. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina serves 34 counties and around 480,000 individuals at risk of hunger in those counties.
It never ceases to amaze me how many families living in our area actually have to wake up each morning and worry about where they are going to find food to feed themselves and their families. It is easy to forget as we live our busy, fast-paced lives, but let’s work together as the Carolina Hurricanes family to serve those struggling with hunger this holiday season.
