Community: Food Drive BOGO Night

Colder weather usually signals the start of the holiday season, but yesterday, temperatures were in the 70s. Never the less, this is Thanksgiving week, so the holiday season has officially begun. I love the months of November and December because it seems like everyone is more willing to give than receive. We have an opportunity this week for each Carolina Hurricanes fan to not only give, but to receive through our annual canned food drive.

The food drive is in full-swing as we push to collect canned food items to support our two beneficiaries this fall. The Food Drive began on November 14 and ends November 23. Fans who donate a minimum of two cans of food at the Time Warner Cable box office at the RBC Center will receive a buy one, get one free ticket voucher for the November 23 game against the Montreal Canadiens. The offer is good until puck drop, and there is a limit of eight tickets per customer. In addition, if you donate Harris Teeter branded products, you will be entered to win an autographed replica hockey stick.

The canned food that is donated by loyal Hurricanes fans will be distributed evenly between the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle serves seven counties in North Carolina and assists over 165,450 people living in poverty. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina serves 34 counties and around 480,000 individuals at risk of hunger in those counties.

It never ceases to amaze me how many families living in our area actually have to wake up each morning and worry about where they are going to find food to feed themselves and their families. It is easy to forget as we live our busy, fast-paced lives, but let’s work together as the Carolina Hurricanes family to serve those struggling with hunger this holiday season.
