Winger scored 11 goals with Philadelphia in 2010-11
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has claimed right wing Andreas Nodl (awn-DRAY-uhs NOHD’L) on waivers from Philadelphia.
“This is a young player that skates really well,” said Rutherford. “He has a skill level that gives us a little more depth among our top 12 forwards.”
Nodl, 24, has played in 12 games with the Flyers this season, earning one assist while averaging 10:17 of ice time per game. The Vienna, Austria, native notched 11 goals and earned 11 assists (22 points) in 67 games with Philadelphia in 2010-11, his first full NHL season. In 126 career NHL regular-season games with the Flyers, Nodl (6’1”, 196 lbs.) has scored 12 goals, earned 16 assists (28 points) and accumulated 20 penalty minutes. His career statistics are below.
Prior to turning professional, Nodl spent two seasons with the St. Cloud State Huskies of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He won WCHA Rookie of the Year honors following his freshman season (2006-07), when he posted 18 goals and 28 assists (46 points) in 40 games with the Huskies. After his sophomore season, Nodl was named to the WCHA Second All-Star Team before joining the Flyers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate for the end of the regular season and the playoffs. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 22, 2008, and earned an assist as Philadelphia fell to San Jose 7-6 in the shootout. The Flyers drafted Nodl in the second round, 39th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
