Community: Toy Drive Enters Final Week
The weather has finally turned a little colder, and holiday music is officially playing on the radio and in most stores. It is easy to let the holiday season fly by with how busy everyone is, but let’s all take a moment to stop and think about those that may be suffering this season.

I just got off the phone with our contact with one of our Toy Drive recipients, and he was explaining how they have to limit the number of toys each family receives this year. Their organization has experienced an enormous increase in families requesting help and has not received enough toys to meet their needs. I spoke with another recipient last week about how they have received fewer donations this year, so they have had to modify their giving.

It hurts my heart to know that these wonderful non-profit organizations in our community have to turn away families this year. I have been extremely blessed my entire life and have never woken up on Christmas morning without a gift from one of my family members. I can’t say I know how it feels, but it must be heart-breaking for a parent to be unable to provide that joy to their child because they have to focus on paying other major bills.

I know it has been a tough year for many, but let’s rally together and make a big push this week to increase the Carolina Hurricanes toy donations. Hopefully we can bring some relief on Friday morning when representatives from Wake County Human Services, InterAct of Wake County, Toys for Tots and Helping Hand Mission come to the RBC Center to pick up their portion of toys.

Come by the RBC Center between today and game-time on Dec. 15 to donate your toy and receive a buy one, get one free ticket voucher for the Hurricanes vs. Canucks game on Thursday.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to each fan that donates a toy and brings a smile to a child’s face this holiday season.
