The Carolina Hurricanes have partnered with Mix 101.5 FM to host a blanket drive at the Dec. 29 home game vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs. Volunteers from Mix 101.5 FM will be on hand from 5:30-7:30 p.m. outside of the South, East and West Entrances of the RBC Center on Thursday to collect new or gently used blankets.
All of the blankets will be donated to the Raleigh Rescue Mission. The Raleigh Rescue Mission’s goal and hope is to “rebuild broken lives ministering to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people." Their services include:
- Emergency Overnight Services
- Recovery & Rehabilitation Services
- Medical Respite

- Medical Clinic
On any given day in Wake County, there are more than 200 children who are homeless. That means during these winter months, there are families on the street trying to keep themselves and their children warm. One of the biggest needs at the Raleigh Rescue Mission right now is blankets. They are working to increase their supply, so that they can have blankets for their shelter, as well as blankets to give out to those that they can’t serve when their beds are full.
Please consider bringing a new or gently used blanket to the game with you on Thursday. Imagine not having your warm bed or house to go to when the weather is cold or rainy. A blanket might not mean much to you, but it may mean keeping a child warm and healthy on a cold night on the streets or in the shelter.
