You may know the statistics: over 225,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer were discovered in the U.S. in the past year alone; 1 out of 8 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime; every 69 seconds a life is lost to breast cancer. Or you may know someone – a friend, a family member, a co-worker – who is either currently battling or has previously been faced with battling breast cancer. You may also know the feeling when that person you care about does not survive their battle. But hopefully, you also know that there are ways in which we can all work together in order to get one step closer to finding a cure.

On Saturday, June 9, the Carolina Hurricanes will once again be participating in the Susan G. Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure. Last year, 45 Caniacs showed up on race day to support our team – Canes for a Cure – and raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. In total, our team raised close to $4,000 for breast cancer research, awareness, treatment and prevention. This year we are hoping to beat that total by raising over $5,000 as a team, and in order to do this we need your help.

Race Day Schedule

5:30 a.m. – Shuttle buses begin at PNC Arena (all parking is at PNC Arena)

6:00 a.m. – Registration/Packet Pickup Opens

6:45 a.m. – Survivor Breakfast Begins

7:00 a.m. – Competitive Open 5K (co-ed)

7:15 a.m. – Survivor Photo

7:45 a.m. – Women’s Only – Jeanne’s Race 5K Run/Walk

8:45 a.m. – Recreational Open 5K Run/Walk (co-ed)

9:30 a.m. – One-Mile Fun Ran/Walk (co-ed)

10:00 a.m. – Kids Dash (ages 3-5)

10:30 a.m. – Survivor Tribute

WHAT: The Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure is a fun-filled event that, in addition to raising funds and awareness, also celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors those who have lost their battle.

There are multiple distances and levels to compete at, including a specially designated “Kids Dash.” The Carolina Hurricanes Kids Zone will also be set up on site, so your little ones can have fun practicing their shot in the slap shot booth and running around on the inflatables. Stormy and members of the Storm Squad will be also in attendance to help cheer on and support all of the participants.
