CarolinaHurricanes.com is traveling Pittsburgh to cover the draft weekend. Below, we’ll keep a running blog of everything that happens throughout the day and in the first round tonight. (A separate running blog will be created for the second day’s rounds 2-7.) We will be hosting a live chat on Twitter beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m., with the first round slated to get underway at 7 p.m. For those who do not have a Twitter account, a live stream of the tweets will be provided on this page.

Check back regularly for new posts, which will include various news items, tweets, videos from CanesVision, pictures and more. You can also follow @nhl_canes, @MSmithCanes and @MikeSundheim on Twitter for additional updates. Finally, we invite you to join the discussion at the bottom of this blog in the comments section.

As a primer for tonight’s first round, here is our entire draft profile series, which focuses on players we believe should be in the mix for the Canes’ eighth overall selection:

The Carolina Hurricanes didn't make any picks in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft, but there will be plenty of time for that tomorrow. The Canes currently hold nine picks in rounds 2-6.

We'll have another running blog posted tomorrow morning. I can't promise it will be very active, as the picks will come in rapid succession. Never the less, it will be updated when time permits. Thanks for following along tonight, and we'll see everyone in the morning!
