After racing for a cure, the Hurricanes are ready to bike for the kids! We are excited to announce that this year’s Athletic Performance Center 24-Hour Bike Challenge benefiting the Kids ‘N Community Foundation will be held starting on Friday, Aug. 24 at 5:00 p.m. and ending Saturday, Aug. 25 at 5:00 p.m.

The Athletic Performance Center (APC) of Raleigh is the work-out haven for many of your Carolina Hurricanes during the offseason and preseason. The APC staff is happy to host the bike challenge for the second year in a row. Last year, the event attracted nearly 120 participants and raised $12,165 for the Foundation. This year, we want to see those numbers grow.

All of the rules and details are available on the APC website, but below is how to get started:

  • Grab at least three of your friends, family or coworkers
  • Have each person donate or raise $50 to contribute to the Foundation
  • Register your team on the event website

There will be prizes for the top mileage teams and fundraisers. On top of that, we will have prize giveaways every hour during the 24-hour event, and special guests will be making appearances at different points during the event.

Do not forget the minimum number of riders on a team is four, but your team must distribute riding shifts for the entire 24 hours. Last year the Hurricanes staff team had 10 participating riders, but we learned our lesson from our wobbly legs. This year, we will recruit more people for our team. Everyone likes friendly competition, so encourage as many people as you can to join your team, and challenge them to beat the Hurricanes team! It’s a fun event, and the more riders you have, the easier it will be.

Participants who register and make the minimum ($50) donation to the Foundation will receive an APC dri-fit shirt and food throughout the 24 hours. You will also be able to enjoy music, movies and sports to help get through the riding. A little bike riding for the kids can keep us in shape during the offseason too!
