Corvo has pledged to donate 50 cents for every mile biked at the 2012 Athletic Performance Center 24-Hour Bike Challenge benefiting the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. The event will start Friday, Aug. 24 at 5:00 p.m. and end Saturday, Aug. 25 at 5:00 p.m. Last year, the bike challenge raised $12,165 for the Foundation.

The Athletic Performance Center (APC) of Raleigh is the work-out spot for some of your Carolina Hurricanes during the offseason and preseason. The center once again hosting the bike challenge, in which teams made up of friends, families and coworkers will take shifts riding a stationary bike during the entire 24-hour event.

Corvo’s generous donation will certainly make each rider’s shift more special knowing that each mile biked will help provide assistance to the children of North Carolina that are in need.

"The Kids ‘N Community Foundation is a great cause, and I'm excited to contribute and looking forward to the cycling challenge," Corvo said.

Jaime Holt, Sports Orthopedic Physical Therapist at APC, said he was excited to see that Corvo is back home with the Hurricanes and even more excited that he has offered to support the 24-Hour Bike Challenge.

“Initially, Joe agreed to ride on a team but also wanted to do more for the Kids ‘N Community Foundation,” Holt said. “By Joe pledging 50 cents per mile, it gives all of the teams extra motivation to ride harder and faster during those wee hours of the night!"

If you are interested in starting a team and joining Corvo’s support for the Foundation, please visit their website for all of the bike challenge rules and details.

Participants who register and make the minimum ($50) donation to the Foundation will receive an APC dri-fit shirt and food throughout the 24 hours. There will be prizes given to the top mileage teams and fundraisers, as well as giveaways each hour. Special guests will make appearances throughout the event, and you will also be able to enjoy music, movies and sports to help get through the riding.

All proceeds of Corvo’s pledge and the event will directly serve North Carolina non-profit children’s charities that focus on the health and education of the underserved population through the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.

Thank you Joe for your commitment to the kids in our community!
