Friesen 5k Update
Race will take one year off with hopes to reintroduce a 5k race in September 2013

PrintHurricanes Head Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Pete Friesen, founded the Friesen 5k in 2006 as a way for Canes fans to celebrate his day with the Stanley Cup. In the last six years Pete and his wife Shelley have devoted countless hours to hosting the run with proceeds benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of North Carolina. The run has hosted nearly 10,000 runners and raised more than $240,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of North Carolina.
The Friesens’ devotion to promoting healthy lifestyles while raising money for a cause close to their hearts is truly admirable.
During the upcoming year the Hurricanes Promotions and Community Relations staff will work with the Friesens to assess the future of the run with intentions to reintroduce the run in September 2013.
