Community: Heart Walk to be Held on Oct. 7
For the fourth year in a row, the Triangle Heart Walk will take place at PNC Arena. On Sunday, Oct. 7, members of the community will walk together to stand against heart disease. We would like to invite our fans and community to be a part of the Carolina Hurricanes team – Canes with Heart.
The mission of the American Heart Association is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans and even took the life of our beloved Donnie MacMillan. Donnie passed away last May, but we want to continue the legacy of our life-loving iceman and everyone else who has passed due to heart ailments. The Hurricanes are once again putting together a participating team that will include some of our players.
There is no registration fee for the walk, and our team is open to the public. Please pass the word along to your friends, family and coworkers who may be interested in participating.
To sign up, please click here and select "Join Team."
We would also like to offer the opportunity to purchase a t-shirt commemorating Donnie to wear at this year’s walk. Last year, a few members of the Hurricanes’ team wore the shirt, so we have made a few changes to make it different. The shirt will be gray with a “Heart of the Ice” logo and Donnie’s name on the sleeve. The shirt will be $12. Please email your size to email@example.com and submit your payment by Sept. 17. You may either bring your payment to PNC Arena or mail it to Community Relations Attn: Gabby Pinto 1400 Edwards Mill Rd. Raleigh, NC 27607. Checks should be made out to “Kristin Cofone.” Purchasing a shirt is not a requirement to sign up for the team.
Please note that it is not required for you or your teammates to be at the walk on Oct. 7. Fundraising is the most important component of the campaign, so please do not be discouraged from registering if you have a conflict with the event date.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to represent the Carolina Hurricanes and PNC Arena at the Triangle Heart Walk. We hope that you will join us to honor Donnie and anyone close to us who has passed because of heart disease.
