RALEIGH, NC – The National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes will host their 13th annual Caniac Carnival at PNC Arena on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. This year’s Carnival will feature activities both inside and outside of the arena, and parking and admission to the event are free and open to the public.

Outside of PNC Arena, fans can enjoy 40 inflatable rides, interactive games and booths, a toddler zone, sports area, live music from Spivey’s Corner and DJ George, and appearances by Hurricanes mascot Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Inside, fans can play street hockey on the arena floor, take pictures on the team bench, in the penalty box or with the Olympia ice resurfacer. Stormy will sign autographs from 11 a.m. until noon, and 1-2 p.m. on the main concourse outside of Section 124, and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad will sign autographs and take pictures from noon until 2 p.m. at the same location.

Beginning at 9 a.m., fans can sign up for the Crazy Caniac Challenge IV, which will consist of running a lap around the outside of PNC Arena, eating two hot dogs, drinking a 12-ounce Pepsi product and then completing a final lap. All competitors will receive a Crazy Caniac T-shirt and the grand prize winner will receive two 12-game plans for the 2012-13 season. Additionally, all Crazy Caniac Challenge finishers will be entered to win two 12-game plans for the 2012-13 season. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and all proceeds from the $15 entry fee will benefit the Carolina Hurricanes Kids ‘N Community Foundation.

During the Carnival, the Hurricanes will be hosting a blood drive to benefit the Rex Blood Services community blood bank. The Rex Blood Services bloodmobile will be on site from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and donations to the blood bank help save lives at Rex Hospital, UNC Healthcare and Duke Regional Hospital.
