RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled center Riley Nash from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, defenseman Tim Gleason has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 12.

Nash, 23, is in his third full professional season and has appeared in 50 games with the Checkers, totaling 11 goals and 24 assists (35 points). He ranks first among Charlotte skaters in assists (24), second in points (35) and tied for second in plus/minus (+11). The Consort, Alb., native matched a Checkers franchise record with four points (2g, 2a), all coming on the power play, in the team’s victory at Milwaukee on Saturday night. With the effort, Nash also surpassed his previous AHL career high for points in a season.

Nash (6’1”, 191 lbs.) has appeared in five NHL games with the Hurricanes, earning one assist. He was acquired by Carolina from Edmonton on June 26, 2010, in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. Originally selected by the Oilers in the first round, 21st overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft, Nash completed a three-year career at Cornell University with 102 points (37g, 65a) in 102 games.
