Canes Activate Gleason, Brent from Injured Reserve
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated Tim Gleason and Tim Brent from injured reserve. In addition, the Hurricanes assigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and center Jeremy Welsh and defenseman Michal Jordan to Charlotte of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Murphy, 19, played his first four NHL games with the Hurricanes, registering two penalty minutes. The Aurora, Ont., native made his NHL debut against Winnipeg on Feb. 21 after being recalled on an emergency basis. Prior to his recall, Murphy (5’11”, 176 lbs.) had skated in 46 OHL games for Kitchener this season, ranking first among Rangers defensemen in goals (8) and points (39), and tied for first in assists (31). Carolina’s first-round selection, 12th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft, Murphy has scored 51 goals and earned 160 assists (211 points) in 220 career OHL regular-season games with Kitchener.

Welsh, 24, appeared in three games during his second NHL stint of the season, and has skated in four games with the Hurricanes this year. The Bayfield, Ont., native is in his first full professional season and has totaled 10 goals and eight assists (18 points) in 47 games with Charlotte in the AHL. Welsh made his NHL debut for the Hurricanes in the team’s final game of the 2011-12 season, and has now played five career NHL games with Carolina, totaling four penalty minutes. Prior to turning professional, Welsh completed a three-year collegiate career for Union College of ECAC Hockey with 100 points (53g, 47a) in 119 games.

Jordan, 22, did not appear in a game for Carolina after being recalled yesterday. The Zlin, Czech Republic native is in his third professional season, and has appeared in five games with Carolina this season, averaging 10:41 of ice time per game. Jordan has scored six goals and earned nine assists (15 points) in 48 games this season with Charlotte this season, and represented the Checkers in the 2013 AHL All-Star Game in Providence, RI on Jan. 28. Drafted by Carolina in the fourth round, 105th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Jordan (6’1”, 195 lbs.) has notched 14 goals and earned 41 assists in 191 career AHL regular-season games with the Checkers.
