RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled goaltender John Muse from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Muse is being recalled on an emergency basis after goaltender Dan Ellis suffered a lower-body injury in Carolina’s game on Thursday against New Jersey. Rutherford also announced that Ellis and defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti are being placed on injured reserve, and defenseman Joe Corvo is being activated from injured reserve.

This marks the first NHL recall for the 24-year-old Muse, who is in his second full professional season. The East Falmouth, MA, native has posted a 6-6-0 record and a 3.48 goals-against average in 13 games with Charlotte this season. He was recalled to Charlotte from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL on Jan. 12. He was 9-8-4 with a 3.66 goals-against average in 21 games with the Everblades prior to joining the Checkers.

In 2011-12, Muse (5’11”, 185 lbs.) backstopped the Florida Everblades to the ECHL Kelly Cup championship, posting an 11-2 record, a 1.78 goals-against average and a .939 save percentages in 13 postseason appearances. He posted a 10-3-3 record, 1.81 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage in 15 regular-season games with Charlotte last season, as well as a 16-6-3 record, 2.42 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 25 regular-season ECHL games with Florida. Muse won two NCAA championships (2008, 2010), three Hockey East Tournament titles (2008, 2010, 2011) and three Beanpot championships (2008, 2010, 2011) during his four-year collegiate career at Boston College. The Hurricanes signed Muse as a free agent on June 7, 2012.
