Pitkanen, 29, has totaled one goal and eight assists (9 points) in 22 games for the Hurricanes this season, averaging 22:49 of ice time per game. The Oulu, Finland, native missed 13 games due to a lower-body injury in February and March, and his 22 games played will be a career low. Originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round, fourth overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Pitkanen has totaled 57 goals, 225 assists (282 points) and 484 penalty minutes in 535 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Edmonton and Carolina.
