RALEIGH, NC – Jon Chase, Director of Community Relations and Promotions for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the details of the team’s February 2014 community day set for Wed., Feb. 5. Hurricanes players Justin Peters and Riley Nash will participate in the events to take place at Lenovo’s offices in Morrisville and the Carolina Ale House in Cary.

At 2 p.m., Hurricanes goaltender Justin Peters will take part in an E-Recycle Drive at Lenovo benefitting the Kramden Institute. Peters will take photos, sign autographs and thank Lenovo employees and the general public that donate old and unused computer items for recycling. The items will be refurbished by Kramden Institute and then donated to military families in North Carolina. Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad will join Peters, and 25 people donating items for recycling will be awarded a Carolina Hurricanes prize pack. The event will take place at Lenovo Building 1, located at 5241 Paramount Parkway in Morrisville. Full details and all ours of the E-Recycle Drive can be found at www.kramden.org.

All donations to the E-Recycle Drive are tax-deductible and can include any desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet, smart or cell phone, LCD monitor and computer accessories including keyboards, mice, RAM, processors, motherboards, power cords, USB cords, hard drives and networking equipment. CRT monitors, televisions and printers will not be accepted. The Kramden Institute, founded in 2003 in Durham, refurbishes donated equipment and donates it to deserving students who are nominated by their teachers and school administrators. To date, more than 6,600 volunteers have donated their time and effort to award more than 15,000 computers in 69 North Carolina counties.

Also on Wednesday, Hurricanes center Riley Nash will visit the Carolina Ale House at 2240 Walnut St. in Cary for two separate events. At 6 p.m., Nash will join the Capital City Crew’s end-of-season dinner. As part of the “NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone” initiative, the Capital City Crew provides an opportunity for inner-city youth ages 8-14 to play ice hockey. Through partnerships with the Wake County Boys & Girls Club, Raleigh Youth Hockey Association (RYHA) and the Hurricanes, this program teaches children life skills and positive character traits through the sport of ice hockey.

Following his appearance with the Capital City Crew, Nash will head into the main Carolina Ale House dining room at 6:30 p.m. to interact with fans and to promote the seventh-annual Paper Hearts and Magnet initiative. This portion of Nash’s visit is open to the public. Throughout February, paper hearts ($1) and magnets ($3) are available at 11 North Carolina locations of the Carolina Ale House, and with proceeds benefitting the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. The paper hearts can be signed by the purchasing patron and will be hung in each respective Carolina Ale House location. For information about the Carolina Ale House, please visit www.carolinaalehouse.com. In 2013, the Paper Hearts and Magnets Campaign set a new record, raising $21,900 for the Kids ‘N Community Foundation.
