Hello and welcome to a weekly feature on CarolinaHurricanes.com in which I take your Twitter questions about the Carolina Hurricanes or other assorted topics and answer them in mailbag form. Hopefully, the final product is insightful to some degree, and maybe we have some fun along the way.

Let’s get to it.

Are dates set for prospects camp? – Edith C. (@caniac47)

Yes, and they were just announced this morning!

Included under the broader umbrella of Summerfest, Prospects Development Camp will take place from Monday, July 21 through Saturday, July 26 at PNC Arena. Afternoon sessions will be open to the public beginning Wednesday, July 23. The camp will cap on Saturday with the Summerfest Celebration, which will feature an autograph session, a mini-scrimmage/skills competition and more.

A more detailed daily schedule and a camp roster will be finalized as the event nears. CarolinaHurricanes.com will be bringing you exclusive coverage throughout the week, including live streaming video and much more.

Additional information on Summerfest and Prospects Development Camp can be found here.

Several of us have been wondering if there will be an update on Semin since he had surgery. – Barbara S. (@tumpover)

Alexander Semin did indeed have wrist surgery recently to correct an issue he had been dealing with since training camp.

“He hurt it in training camp. He jammed it and had issues with that. He tried a couple different things over the course of the season, but more or less just played with the bad wrist all season,” said Canes Executive Vice President and General Manager Ron Francis. “All indications are that the surgery went well. He’s rehabbing it now, and he should be 100 percent for training camp.”

In 65 games in the 2013-14 season, Semin posted 22 goals and 20 assists (42 points) and a plus-1 rating. He will be entering the second year of a five-year contract extension signed in March 2013.

Your top choices for a new coach? – Joe R. (@ribar96)

Figured I’d toss a coach question into the bag this week, so here we go.

Thankfully, I have little input in this process. And by little, I mean none. Francis, on the other hand, certainly has a short list of candidates that will likely never be revealed to the general public. For reference, we compiled a list of available personnel – now, minus Barry Trotz – a few weeks ago.

I spoke with Francis on Tuesday about the process and where it currently sits. Here’s what he had to say: “It’s more important that I get the right guy than to get the decision done fast.”

He reiterated that he’d like to have a coach in place by the NHL Draft (June 27-28 in Philadelphia) but said that the process could stretch into the second or third week of June.

How much weight/fluid does a hockey player lose over the course of a game? How about over a seven-game series? – Jamie K. (@jbk_ltd)

Good question! To help answer this one, enter Doug Bennett, the Canes’ assistant athletic trainer.

According to Doug, players can lose five to 10 pounds of water weight, on average, in a game. Goaltenders tend to lose the most because of their bulkier, weightier equipment.

In a seven-game series, the player would ideally put that weight on prior to the next game. Through hydration and diet, Doug said, the player gets back to his playing weight.
