Ricky Olczyk Joins Hurricanes Management Team
Olczyk will serve as assistant general manager alongside Brian Tatum and Mike Vellucci.
RALEIGH, NCRon Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that Ricky Olczyk has joined the Hurricanes as assistant general manager. Olczyk joins Brian Tatum and Mike Vellucci, who were named assistant general managers in April.

“Ricky brings a wealth of experience to the Hurricanes,” said Francis. “His legal expertise with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and other areas of hockey operations will be a great asset to our management team.”

Olczyk, 44, comes to Carolina after six seasons as assistant general manager with the Edmonton Oilers. The Chicago, IL, native joined the Oilers’ hockey operations staff in 2007 as director of hockey administration and legal affairs and was Edmonton’s liaison to the NHL regarding all matters pertaining to the CBA. Prior to joining the Oilers, Olczyk ran his own legal consulting firm in Chicago for six years, representing players and advising families on academic and professional goals.

A 1992 graduate of Brown University, Olczyk earned a law degree from Cornell Law School in 1996. While at Brown, he played four seasons of Division I hockey and served as the Bears’ captain during his senior year. Olczyk also captained the United States Under-17 National Team that won the Silver Medal at the 1986 World Cup. He is the younger brother of Eddie Olczyk, U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer and television analyst for the NHL on NBC.
