PHILADELPHIA -- The Carolina Hurricanes made six selections on day two of the 2014 NHL Draft. Here’s a quick look at each of them with quotes from Canes Director of Amateur Scouting Tony MacDonald and the prospects themselves.

Alex Nedeljkovic, goaltender, Plymouth (OHL)

MacDonald’s take: “Alex is an athletic goaltender. He’s very quick. He’s very smart, and he understands the game very well. He positions himself well and plays his angles well. He’s a very good puck handler, and he’s a great competitor,” he said. “We’re pretty pleased that we’ve added another quality goaltender to our [group].”

Nedeljkovic on being drafted: “Just to get that weight lifted off my shoulders and to know that I’m part of an organization now is incredible. I really can’t describe it much more than that.”

Nedeljkovic on who he models his game after: “Ryan Miller is who I would say. He’s definitely an athletic goalie, but he’s very technically sound and he does all the little things right. You rarely see him out of position.”

Warren Foegele, forward, St. Andrews (High Ontario)

MacDonald’s take: “He’s got good size. We like his size and the physical game that he plays. He plays a power game, and he’s a very good skater. He’s a high-energy guy that’s strong on the puck and creates things.”

Foegele on his game: “I describe myself as a two-way power forward that tries to compete at his max. I try to use my speed and explosiveness to my advantage.”

Foegele on modeling his game after Ryan Kesler: “He’s a hard, two-way power forward who finishes his checks and can score goals too.”

Foegele on committing to New Hampshire: “I just loved the school itself and the hockey program. When it came down to it, I really liked that the coaches believed in me, and I can’t wait for that experience next Fall with them and hopefully win a championship there.”

Josh Wesley, defenseman, Plymouth (OHL)

MacDonald’s take: “I interviewed Josh myself in Toronto and found him to be an outstanding young man. He’s a fine man with some good physical tools. He’s growing and developing as a player. He had a pretty solid season in Plymouth, and we think that he’ll continue to grow and develop as a player. He’s got size and reach, and he uses it.”

Wesley on being drafted: “I’m so blessed to have this jersey on right now,” he said. “Growing up, this was my favorite team to watch. I had Hurricanes stuff.”

Wesley on his game versus his dad’s: “My mom and a lot of people would say that we skate exactly the same. He was a little more offensive when he was younger. He’ll tell me that I’m a little smarter defensively than he was at my age. But he was a very special player who played for 20 years. Even to get that opportunity would be amazing.”

Wesley on playing in the same organization as his dad: “There’s going to be a little bit of pressure if I make the team playing under his banner,” he said. “We’re two different people, and I’m going to play my own game.”

Lucas Wallmark, forward, Lulea (Sweden)

MacDonald’s take: “Lucas is a player we liked a lot last year, and he went through the Draft last year as a ‘95,” he said. “He’s got good hockey sense, he’s a good skater and he’s got good skill. We feel he can continue to grow and develop in Sweden, probably.”

Note: Wallmark was the only of the Canes’ draft picks to not be in attendance. Here’s what we do know: he’s a 6-foot, 176-pound forward who captured the silver medal with teammate Elias Lindholm and Team Sweden at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Clark Bishop, forward, Cape Breton (QMJHL)

MacDonald’s take: “He was a bit of an under-the-radar guy. We had him a lot higher on our list than where we took him,” he said. “He’s a good skater and has a great attitude. We like what he brings to the table with his energy, skating and skill.”

Bishop on being drafted: “I’m really excited. This is a dream come true. I was really nervous sitting up in my seat for a long while, but when my name got called, I was really relieved and happy to be a part of this organization.”

Bishop on his game: “I’m a full 200-foot forward. I play good in both ends of the rink. My speed is really my best attribute, and I’ll just do anything the coach asks me.”

Kyle Jenkins, defenseman, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

MacDonald’s take: “He’s not a real big guy. He’s kind of a lightweight. He might need to put some weights in his socks starting out, but he’s over six foot,” he said. “He’s a very intelligent defenseman. He’s sound positionally. He’s got good hockey sense and reads the rush well. All he has to do is get stronger. He’ll continue to get stronger as he matures. We don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet.”

Jenkins on his game: “I think my style of play is all-around D-man,” he said. “I possess the puck and make plays with the puck. I don’t throw it away. I contribute offensively as well as defensively.”

Jenkins on who he models his game after: “I really enjoyed watching Nick Lidstrom play as a kid, so I try to model my game around his but that’s pretty hard.”
