Hello and welcome to a weekly feature on CarolinaHurricanes.com in which I take your Twitter questions about the Carolina Hurricanes or other assorted topics and answer them in mailbag form. Hopefully, the final product is insightful to some degree, and maybe we have some fun along the way.

Let’s get to it.

After reading about Semin’s hand, I want an injury update. – Ann S. (@AnnSolberg87)

You got it. Spoiler: no reason to panic.

A week-and-a-half ago, Dmitry Chesnokov tweeted this tidbit of news on Alexander Semin’s wrist:

That might have stirred up some cause for concern, but Hurricanes Executive Vice President and General Manager Ron Francis told CarolinaHurricanes.com that the situation is a bit different.

“My understanding was that he was coming back to train,” he said. “He’s training, according to his agent, a couple times a day and doing therapy on the wrist as well. There were no issues with the wrist, as far as I was told.”

Earlier this offseason, Semin underwent surgery to repair a wrist issue that had nagged him since training camp last season. The injury was a contributing factor in the now-30-year-old winger netting just three goals in his first 24 games. Semin had a much-improved second-half, scoring 16 goals in a 25-game stretch from January to March.

When asked if Semin would be 100 percent by the start of training camp in mid-September, Francis answered confidently.

“Based on the information I have, absolutely yes,” he said.

What’s up on the promotions front this season? – Kate E. (@katecaniac)

Ready for another #Tweetmail exclusive?

Here it is!

That image linked above is a Hurricanes scarf, your Opening Night giveaway item courtesy of PNC. It’s soft, warm and lightweight, the perfect accessory for being in a building that houses a large sheet of ice.

A full promotions schedule, including a calendar giveaway, South Plaza Party dates and more, will be released closer to the start of the season.

Speaking of things being released, it was announced last week that individual game tickets will go on sale on Friday, Sept. 12 to the general public for all home games. So, if you want one of those snazzy scarfs, mark off your calendar for 10/10/14 as the Canes host the New York Islanders.

Any changes or upgrades to the arena this year? – Joe Z. (@Josephzoller)

There are, the biggest of which is the lighting system upgrade. This fall, PNC Arena will become the first United States’ NHL venue to feature Musco’s innovative Show-Light Green™ LED system.

The new LED system is currently being installed, and fans will get their first experience under the lights when the Hurricanes host the Blue Jackets in their preseason opener on Sept. 21.

So what sort of differences can you expect to see with the new, state-of-the-art LED lighting technology? Reduced glare and a noticeably enhanced and brighter light, both in-arena and on television. Additionally, Musco’s lighting system will improve playability for the athletes and reduce energy consumption and operating costs for the arena by as much as 70 percent.

The new LED lighting will also provide an enhanced in-game atmosphere. Efficient lighting controls and instant on/off and dimming capabilities will allow for enhanced special effects, whether it’s during player introductions, during play or after goals.

Additionally, a group of very talented and creative folks inside our marketing department brainstormed a number of concourse enhancements you could see as early as this season.

Last three movies seen in theatres? – Nick H. (@GorgonReviews)

Working my way back from most recent: CHEF, GODZILLA and NEIGHBORS. A bonus one-word review for each in the same order: delicious, roar and fratastic.

On the must-see-soon list: BOYHOOD.

I’ll be taking one last summer vacation next week, so join me in two weeks for more questions and more answers!

Speaking of questions and answers, Mike Maniscalco will host a roundtable with head coach Bill Peters, General Manager Ron Francis and President of Gale Force Sports & Entertainment Don Waddell on Wednesday, Sept. 3 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The 90-minute #FanTownHall discussion will be driven by your questions. You’ll be able to listen to the question-and-answer session on 99.9 FM The Fan or watch live on WRAL SportsFan or WRAL2. More information can be found here.

As always, you can find me on Twitter at @MSmithCanes.
