Kids 'N Community Foundation As “The Heart of the Carolina Hurricanes,” the Kids ‘N Community Foundation offers programming assistance and financial funds to assist local area youth organizations. Since the establishment of the Foundation in 1997, over $7.5 million have been granted to organizations that focus on enhancing the lives of the youth in our community. With the ongoing support of Hurricanes players and corporate sponsors, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation funds many causes including scholarship programs, youth hockey, educational and literacy efforts, health programs, and the arts. Throughout the year, the Carolina Hurricanes host many events to raise awareness and money for the community. Ranging from our in-game silent auctions to our biggest fundraising event, The Casino Night and Wine Tasting, the Carolina Hurricanes are always finding ways to raise funds. The effectiveness of these events would not be possible without the active contribution of the players, their families, Hurricanes staff, and the community. In March 2009, the second of our bi-annual grant cycles concluded with the Kids ‘N Community Foundation donating $226,500 to 23 different organizations during the spring/summer cycle. When combined with the $279,720 awarded to 20 organizations in the fall/winter grant cycle, the Kids 'N Community Foundation donated its second-highest total in history with $506,220 raised for 43 local charities this season. Last year set a franchise donation record of $578,094 to 37 organizations. This total is just over $100,000 more than the record set during the 01-02 season. Our next grant cycle will take place in the fall of 2009, and more grants will be awarded to deserving organizations. In addition to the foundation, the Hurricanes contribute to the community in numerous other ways, bringing the team’s annual charitable giving to over $ 1 million in cash and in-kind services. The Carolina Hurricanes are extremely excited every year to give back to the community that has supported us in so many ways.
