Assistant Athletic Trainer
Doug Bennett is in his sixth season as the assistant athletic trainer with the Carolina Hurricanes, working with Peter Friesen in training and rehabilitating Hurricanes players.
Bennett has experience working with both professional and collegiate athletic teams. Prior to joining the Hurricanes full-time, he served in the athletic department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, while also assisting the Hurricanes as an Intern/Gameday Athletic Trainer during the 2009-10 season. Bennett spent one season as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) in 2004-05 and his training background also includes the National Football League. The Johnstown, PA, native worked at the training camp for the Seattle Seahawks in 2003, and with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2006. He also spent one year as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Penn State University, working with the football program.
Bennett is an active BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) as accredited by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In 2007, he earned his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bennett earned his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University in 2004.
Doug and his wife, Shelley, reside in Raleigh.
