Hurricanes In-School Program
For the 2014-2015 NHL season, the Canes Youth and Amateur Hockey (CYAH) team returns to local schools to teach the rapidly growing game of hockey. The CYAH team seeks to provide elementary and middle school students with the opportunity play floor hockey during the school’s normal gym class time at no cost. Floor hockey is played on foot in a school’s gym and is easily adapted for students of any skill level or athletic ability. The Carolina Hurricanes' Youth and Amateur Hockey Coordinator is former Canes player, Shane Willis. Shane, along with his assistant Thomas Whitmeyer-Weathers, brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and professional experience to the classroom as a previous NHL player. Combining a proven program with Shane’s professional experience on the ice is sure to provide an exciting and engaging experience for students who are avid hockey enthusiasts or new to the sport.
