Hurricanes In-School Program
As part of the Carolina Hurricanes' commitment to the community, the Hurricanes visit public and private schools throughout the year to teach the basics of hockey to local youth. Emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship, the Hurricanes' youth and amateur hockey staff provides professional hockey instruction to students during physical education classes or after-school programs.
This is a flexible program that can be geared towards a variety of settings and age levels. It is organized to fit into a long or short period of time lasting one to three days. The students learn the basics of hockey including stick handling, passing, shooting, positioning on the rink and other basic hockey strategies.
The Hurricanes provide all of the equipment that is required to participate including sticks, balls, goal nets and goalie equipment. The program allows students of varying skill levels to either experience the fun of hockey for the first time or compete in a game that is not always commonly found in schools. Canes Street Stormers
The Carolina Hurricanes are proud to support NHL Street, a league-wide initiative that allows youth to play the sport of hockey without economic or social barriers. In partnership with the National Hockey League, the Canes Street Stormers program provides street hockey equipment free of charge to community centers, schools and other youth centers throughout North Carolina. All program equipment is provided compliments of the NHL and the Carolina Hurricanes. Introductory street hockey clinics are also available at no cost and are delivered by the Hurricanes' youth and amateur hockey staff.
The Carolina Hurricanes would like to invite community centers, schools and other youth groups to consider becoming a part of this program. Participating in the Canes Street Stormers program gives youth the chance to play the game in communities throughout North Carolina. Collegiate Hockey
As part of our commitment to growing and promoting the game of hockey, the Hurricanes are proud to support and profile the local college hockey teams in North Carolina. As part of our support, the Hurricanes host the College Hockey Shootout during select intermissions throughout the season. The College Hockey Shootout showcases rival schools competing head-to-head in a shootout format on the RBC Center ice. This profiles the talent in our local club hockey college scene and promotes the collegiate club hockey programs available for players in our region.
The Hurricanes are also proud supporters of the annual Canes Cup College Hockey Tournament. Hosted by NC State University every January, the Canes Cup is a four-team round-robin tournament that demonstrates intense college hockey action as teams compete for the title of Canes Cup champions. |
