|Hurricanes In-School Program
As part of the Carolina Hurricanes' commitment to the community, the Hurricanes visit public and private schools throughout the year to teach the basics of hockey to local youth. Emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship, the Hurricanes' youth and amateur hockey staff provides professional hockey instruction to students during physical education classes or after-school programs.
This is a flexible program that can be geared towards a variety of settings and age levels. It is organized to fit into a long or short period of time lasting one to three days. The students learn the basics of hockey including stick handling, passing, shooting, positioning on the rink and other basic hockey strategies.
The Hurricanes provide all of the equipment that is required to participate including sticks, balls, goal nets and goalie equipment. The program allows students of varying skill levels to either experience the fun of hockey for the first time or compete in a game that is not always commonly found in schools.
