| Carolina Hurricanes Summer Camps For the 14th straight year, the Carolina Hurricanes will host summer hockey camps in late July and early August. Details can be found below! CYAH: Summer Camps Fast Approaching Hurricanes Skill Development and Goalie Camp Week 1: July 30 - August 3 10 and Under: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Super Friday Game: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. $450 The main focus of this camp is on fundamental hockey skills. This camp teaches the basics of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting. The finer points of each of those skills include shooting techniques, shot accuracy, puck control, hand-eye coordination, along with skating agility and maneuverability. Through organized drills and games, players will learn the key elements that will help them to develop and achieve success in their upcoming seasons. Along with on-ice instruction, campers will receive one hour of dry land training daily. The off-ice portion will equip players with the knowledge of how to properly strengthen and stretch without injuring themselves. A forty-five minute classroom session included in the camp features video and off-ice teaching to develop the mental aspect and strategy of a player’s game. Players enrolled in the camp will have the chance to tour the Carolina Hurricanes official practice facility locker room. 11 and Older: 9:30 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., Super Friday Game: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. $450 This session expands on the fundamentals taught to the younger group. Canes Goaltending Camp: 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. $390 The goaltending camp will build a strong foundation for both rookie and veteran goaltenders. By focusing on the technical, physical, and mental skills necessary for the position, goaltenders will be able to take his or her game to a more consistent level along with an increase in confidence. The staff will implement the newest ideas in goaltending alongside the time-tested fundamentals to improve enrolled goaltenders’ skating, movement, stance, balance, positioning, and overall understanding of the game. Specific save techniques will be covered with an emphasis on the proper use of each piece of equipment for the save. Breakaway management, age-specific puck handling skills, puck tracking, along with screened and deflected shots are situation specific skills that will be covered throughout the week of camp. In addition to learning individual skills, players will partake in team building exercises that will be used to improve each goaltender’s ability to be a leader both on and off the ice. Along with the on-ice training, goaltenders will participate in off-ice sessions, which include video and classroom tutorials, as well as dry land training. Hurricanes Elite Training Camp and Girls Camp Week 2: August 6 - August 10 Squirt & PeeWee (9-12 Years Old): 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Super Friday Game: 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. $465 The elite program focuses on power skating and skill development at a higher level. A combination of high speed puck control, passing, scoring, and power skating will be covered throughout the week. Each player will also learn checking techniques, which is crucial to the reduction of injury as each player will learn how to properly deliver and receive body checks. Every drill is practiced at optimum speeds and intended to grow each individual’s ability. Along with individual skills, players will learn offensive/defensive zone strategies along with fore checking/back checking strategies within a team setting. Along with on-ice instruction, campers will receive one hour of dry land training daily. The off-ice portion will equip players with the knowledge of how to properly strengthen and stretch without injuring themselves. A forty-five minute classroom session included in the camp features video and off-ice teaching to develop the mental aspect and strategy of a player’s game. *Players attending this camp should currently be playing travel hockey. Camp staff will encourage registrants to sign up for the camp that is best suited for their skill level and overall development Girls: 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Super Friday Game: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. $450 We are excited to announce a girls’ only summer camp. With the growth of girls’ hockey in the Carolinas, the demand has grown and the Carolina Hurricanes are eager to meet this demand. This week will feature high level instruction that will allow both beginner and advanced players to excel and develop their skating and skills. Skill development will focus on tools such as puck handling, passing, and shooting. A separate session dedicated to power skating and stride development will also be included. Along with on-ice instruction, the girls will receive one hour of dry land training daily. The off-ice portion will equip them with the knowledge of how to properly strengthen and stretch without injuring themselves. Super Friday Game Each session of camp ends with a Super Friday Game. This game is a chance for players to utilize what they have learned through out the week in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Families are encouraged to attend to cheer on your favorite hockey player! The Super Friday Game will be taped by Canes Vision and announced by Carolina Hurricanes play by play legend, John Forslund.
