Summer 2012 Q&A
What was your favorite memory from this past season?
Honestly a specific moment doesn’t jump out at me; I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Canes organization for a second year, cheering the team on through thick and thin and meeting new Caniacs each game!
Of course Hurricanes hockey is your favorite sport, but what sports are you following now that the season is over?
I cannot wait for the Summer Olympics. I will watch every second of gymnastics. I need to brush up on the newer scoring system since it’s changed since I was a gymnast back in the day.
What was the best summer vacation you ever took?
I studied abroad in Costa Rica for a month in 2009. Anywhere I can rappel down waterfalls, bungee jump over a rainforest, see a crocodile in the wild and eat rice & beans for breakfast would do.
What is your favorite summertime treat?
Fresh squeezed lemonade. No, wait, kabobs.
Birthday cake or cupcakes?
What would I find in your fridge right now?
Lots of fruit and some veggies.
Do you have any plans for the 4th of July?
Pretty standard: grilling and hanging around the pool.
What is your favorite North Carolina beach?
Emerald Isle. I found some awesome shells there. I literally cannot go to the beach without looking for shells.
What are some things you can’t live without?
Food, water, oxygen, shelter.
Conan, Letterman or Leno?
Take the winning shot or make the pass that leads to the winning shot?
Whatever it takes to stay off the bench.
Which do you like more and why: the black jersey, the red jersey or the white jersey?
Red because it’s the one I own!
In your own words, what does it mean to be a role model?
A role model guides others to improve, mainly through example.
What was the best birthday gift you ever received?
Ok, I hate to admit this, but I got a TI-89 Titanium graphic calculator for my 18th Birthday from my Dad. I wasn’t too thrilled at the time, but that bad boy got me through my Chemistry degree so I now have a sentimental attachment to it! It’s only slightly embarrassing.
Beach or Pool?
Beach. There are a lot more activities available there. I can’t sit still for too long.
What’s your must-DVR show?
"The Office." Also "Wilfred" is starting back up for the summer.
Ice cream or froyo?
What’s the best lighthouse on the famous North Carolina coast?
I haven’t seen any, don’t tell.
What was the last concert you went to?
Beach Boys at Raleigh Amphitheatre. I’m considering not going to another concert ever again as I’m not sure how it could be topped.
What is your favorite summertime song?
I’m loving Fun’s new album.
Zoo or Aquarium?
2011-12 Season Q&A
Who are your favorite people to follow on Twitter?
No Twitter for me. I know more than I’d like to about celebrities as it is.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Travel, travel, travel!
What would your friends be surprised to know about you?
I don’t think anything would surprise them anymore - I’m quite spontaneous.
If you could have been born in another country, what country would you have liked to have grown up in?
Might be my American pride speaking, but I wouldn’t want to grow up anywhere else!
What is your favorite app on your phone or iPod?
I am a self-proclaimed Angry Birds master.
If you could be any animal, what would you want to be and why?
A bird of prey - no immediate predators so I could chill out in trees for most of the day and do some dive bombing whenever I get hungry.
Who was your favorite musical artist when you were in the 5th grade?
Hanson. Side note: I got to meet NSync, but I was a BSB girl all the way.
If you could sit on the front row at any concert, whose concert would you want to see?
I saw the Eagles from nearly the back row of the RBC Center and LOVED it. If I could get a seat upgrade to the front row I’d be pretty pumped.
What is the craziest thing your parents did to embarrass you growing up?
My mom always took a million pictures… especially during my awkward stages. Paparazzi style.
What is your dream job, other than being a member of the Storm Squad?
What is your favorite color of nail polish and why?
Dark purple, almost black. I don’t have a reason other than that it looks awesome.
If you could name yourself, what would you like to be called?
My parents thought they were being creative when they chose Amanda because it was a relatively unique name when I was born. Later the same year, Boston came out with “Amanda.” I’m convinced that’s why there were always at least three Amanda’s in every class growing up. I went through a phase where I wanted to be called Zoey, but now I’m cool with my name.
In your opinion, what is the best kept secret in Raleigh?
Assagio’s on Glenwood/Milbrook. I get the chicken parm every time. It’s so good that I haven’t bothered to try anything else.
If you could write a mission statement for your life, what would it say?
I’d keep it simple: have fun & don’t sweat the small stuff.
What is your favorite quote?
I wanted my high school senior quote to be Voltaire’s “a witty saying proves nothing,” but I thought it might be slightly offensive sitting next to everyone else’s witty sayings.
What song do you wish they would play at a Hurricanes game?
I need to hear “shout” some more! Hey hey hey hey!
What is your weirdest or most unique talent?
For some reason, I’m able to draw Disney characters very well. I found out by chance when helping a friend create a sign for a baseball game.
Where are you from?
Connecticut, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida and North Carolina!
What is your least favorite subject that you studied in school?
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you as a member of the Storm Squad?
I don’t embarrass too easily, but I had a near run-in with a human hamster ball last pre-season. Thankfully I was able to get out of the way just in time to avoid being knocked down on the ice by a giant human hamster ball. Whew.
What is your favorite flavor of cupcake?
Funfetti cupcakes with funfetti icing are a-mazing. I also like red velvet.
