|Fifth Annual Canes Summer Fun Fest
The Fifth Annual Canes Summer Fun Fest is set for Friday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m. at PNC Arena. The event includes over twenty interactive inflatables, games and experiences, free giveaways, guest speakers from the Hurricanes, appearances by Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad, discounted concessions, street hockey and hockey games, extended hours for The Eye and a showing of a Hurricanes video. Parking and admission are free to the general public.
The highlight of the evening will be the State of the Hurricanes. Guests for this address will include President and General Manager Jim Rutherford, forward Chad LaRose and alumni Jesse Boulerice and Aaron Ward. The address will be hosted by the Canes television play-by-play announcer John Forslund. Fans should sit in the East side of PNC Arena for the address.
New for 2012, the event will be moving inside PNC Arena. The activities will expand across the arena floor, first level and more! While the ice will not be down, fans will be able to take pictures on the team bench, in the penalty box, with the Olympias and more. Also, the Carolina Hurricanes banners hanging in the rafters will be lowered allowing fans to take their pictures with them. These banners include division/conference championships, the 2006 Stanley Cup banner and the retired jerseys of Rod Brind'Amour, Ron Francis and Glen Wesley.
The Canes Summer Fun Fest will be fans’ first chance to view available seat locations for the 2012-13 season, which kicks off in October. Fans will have the opportunity to roam PNC Arena and pick out seats for full season ticket packages and 26-game plans.
The evening will conclude with a Hurricanes video showing at 8:30 p.m. The video looks back at the team's history, including footage spanning from the late 90s until the present, when a highlight package will prep fans for the upcoming season. The video montage will highlight historic moments in franchise history such as the Stanley Cup run in 2002, the 2006 Stanley Cup championship, the deep playoff run in 2009 and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game. It will also include segments on former and current fan favorites and some lighter moments, such as past commercials and an in-game favorite, "Ask the Canes."
Fans are also invited to partake in a School Supply Charity Drive to benefit the Wake County Boys & Girls Clubs. The majority of the children served at the local clubs do not have adequate funds to start school with the supplies they need. During the Fun Fest, supplies can be brought to the Kids ‘N Community Foundation kiosk inside the East Priority Lounge. Items can include:
