Samantha's Bio

This is Samantha’s first year as a member of the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Before graduating from East Carolina University in the spring, she majored in construction management, minored in business administration and was a member of Chi Omega. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her Maltese, going shopping and taking Zumba classes. Samantha joined the Storm Squad to express her spirit and enthusiasm for Hurricanes hockey.

Q&A with Samantha

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Have a family, travel the world and open up a doggy day care one day as my job.  

What would your friends be surprised to know about you?
I’m a history buff. I started a love for history in elementary school, and ever since I have been fascinated. From visiting historical sites to watching the History Channel, I cannot get enough!

If you could have been born in another country, what country would it be?
My dad’s mother was from Germany, so I would love to experience my German roots.

What is your favorite app on your phone or iPod?
Instagram. I love the effects I can apply to my photos instantly.

Who was your favorite musical artist when you were in the 5th grade?
Britney Spears. 5th grade was right around the time “Baby One More Time” debuted. I still have her first CD.

What is the craziest thing your parents did to embarrass you growing up?
My mom used to make me go sit in Santa’s lap in the mall until I was in 5th grade. I was the oldest kid there.

What is the strangest thing in your refrigerator right now?
Fresh pickled garlic I picked up at a general store. I love anything garlic!

What is your favorite quote?
"I don't mind living in a man's world, as long as I can be a woman in it." - Marilyn Monroe

What is your weirdest or most unique talent?
My weirdest talent would probably be my ability to eat and endure any food that is extremely spicy. Most of my friends cannot eat anything I cook because I use cayenne, habanero, jalapeno, crushed red peppers or hot sauce.

What is the most memorable sporting event that you’ve attended?
A NASCAR race in Rockingham, N.C., when I was eight years old was one of the best days of my life. My dad and I had pit passes, and I was able to meet my idol at the time, Jeff Gordon.

If you were on "American Idol," what song would you choose to sing?
David Allen Coe’s “You Never Even Call Me By My Name.” I used to do country karaoke while I was in college, and this was always my “go to” song.

Dogs or cats?
Dogs. I love my Maltese, Milly, even though she can be seven pounds of trouble!

What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
Go on a shopping trip in Paris, and then vacation in Italy.

Besides food and water, what three things would you take with you to a desert island?

Music, a hammock and my dog!

Night owl or early bird?
Early bird. I am most productive first thing in the morning (after a cup of coffee of course).

What is your guilty pleasure?
Reality TV. Honey Boo Boo, Dance Moms, and Real Housewives are a few of my favorites.

NC State, Duke, or UNC?
ECU. I am a pirate for life!

What is your favorite time of year and why?
Fall. College football, boots, scarves and pumpkin spice lattes.

Who makes the best jokes on the Storm Squad?
Jonathan is hilarious. He was in my group during tryouts, and he kept us entertained the whole time!

What is it that you love about North Carolina?
I was born and raised in North Carolina. Southern hospitality, the beautiful coast and the breath-taking mountains are some of the best things about N.C. Oh, and the weather isn’t too bad either!

Do you have any superstitions?
My mom is trying to instill in me the old superstition of not putting your purse on the floor because it’s bad luck. It’s growing on me!

What candy reminds you most of your youth?
Sour Warheads. I could eat a whole bag in a day.

What TV show do you wish was still on the air?
The classic "I Love Lucy." One of America’s greatest TV shows.

What is your favorite book you read as a child?
“Where the Red Fern Grows.” There is nothing better than a story about a boy and his dogs.
