Sydney's Bio

This is Sydney’s first year as a member of the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad. Growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she has been hockey fan all of her life and could not imagine a better job or opportunity than being a part of this organization. She is currently a sophomore in the business program at NC State University. Sydney enjoys staying active and being outdoors, and she would love to someday backpack through Australia or South America. She also spends a lot of time with her family and can often be found cheering on her brother’s hockey team. Sydney’s favorite part of being on the Storm Squad is the opportunity to help out with the community and interact with the fans.

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
1) Backpacking through Australia
2) Scuba diving with sharks
3) Skydiving

What would your friends be surprised to know about you?
Hmm ... that I am slightly obsessed with the show "The Vampire Diaries." I have watched all of the seasons numerous times.

If you could have been born in another country, what country would it be?
Greece. I think it’s a beautiful country with a beautiful culture.

What is your favorite app on your phone or iPod?
My favorite app would have to be either Pandora or Nike Running. Both help me during workouts!

Who was your favorite musical artist when you were in the 5th grade?
Britney Spears. I danced and lip-synced to one of her songs on stage in 5th grade.

What is the craziest thing your parents did to embarrass you growing up?
My mom gave me a bowl-cut that matched my brothers’ for several years. It’s safe to say that I didn’t make many friends during this time period.

When did you go to your first NHL game?
I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan so my parents have been taking us to Red Wings games for as long as I can remember.

What is your favorite quote?
“All we need to do is show a little class, a little sophistication, and we're in like a dirty shirt” – From "Dumb and Dumber"

What is your weirdest or most unique talent?
I am double jointed in my fingers, but that’s about it. Wish I was weirder.

If you were on "American Idol," what song would you choose to sing?
"Payphone" by Maroon 5. It’s one of my favorites right now, but for the record, I can’t sing.

Dogs or cats?
Dogs! I have a Yorkie named Lexi and a bishon named Shasta. I have always been a dog lover.

What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery?
I would take my entire family (including all my cousins) back to Hawaii for a few weeks!

Night owl or early bird?
Early bird! I often get made fun of for being a college student and not being able to stay awake past 10:00, but I am up at 5:30 every morning!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Popcorn. I make popcorn on the stove with canola oil and sea salt almost every single night.

NC State, Duke, or UNC?
NC State! Wolfpack!

What is your favorite time of year and why?
Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. The weather is perfect, plus you have football, the fair and some great holidays.

Who makes the best jokes on the Storm Squad?
This is my first year on Storm Squad, and so far I think Kimberly is the funniest.

What is it that you love about North Carolina?
That you get to enjoy both the mountains and the beach!
 
Do you have any superstitions?
I am a full believer in the knock-on-wood trick.
 
Do you have any nicknames?
Syd the Kid.
 
What was your favorite TV show when you were growing up?
"Boy Meets World." I still watch the re-runs in the morning before I head to class.

What candy reminds you most of your youth?
I am what people call a candy-addict, so I really do not have one specific candy that stands out from my childhood. But, if I had to choose, Razzles are pretty old-school

What is the funniest movie that you have ever seen?
"Dumb and Dumber" will forever be one of the greatest and funniest movies I have seen.
