Hurricanes Elite Camp
U18, U16 and U14
Available spots: 24 skaters and 3 goalies in each group
The Carolina Hurricanes will be hosting an Elite Hockey Camp at PNC Arena, and it will be modeled after the Carolina Hurricanes Prospect Development camp taking place the same week. The camp will consist of four days of elite training on and off the ice. The players will change in NHL locker rooms, learn from the Carolina Hurricanes coaching and hockey staff at every session and eat the same meals as the Canes prospects. Camp space is limited to the first 54 players (24 skaters and 3 goalies in both groups). The camp is open to U18, U16 and U14 players.
Each day, on-ice instruction will be run by Carolina Hurricanes coaches Bill Peters, Rod Brind'Amour, Steve Smith, David Marcoux, Cory Stillman and Glen Wesley.
Off-ice training will be led by EXOS, the leader in integrated performance training, nutrition, and physical therapy for elite and professional athletes. Today, EXOS is known as the preferred and premiere place for elite athletes to train, as well as a leader in applied research and innovation to advance human performance.
Schedule Overview: The camp will run from Tuesday, July 7 through Saturday, July 11. The first four days will include 90 minutes of skills practice with Carolina Hurricanes coaches in the morning, followed by an hour of Elite training with the EXOS professional staff. Lunch will be provided to help educate players on what they should be putting in their bodies to refuel during a hockey season. Following lunch, activities will include NHL-style practices and/or a one-hour power skating lesson with Dusan Kralik, who brings experience working with some of the top hockey players. Each day will also feature an hour lecture period with topics that include nutrition, vision, video breakdown & proper social media guidelines. On Saturday, the camp will conclude with a full game during Canes Summerfest Celebration. Players will receive a practice jersey and a work-out shirt and shorts.
Testimonials for 2014 Hurricanes Elite Camp
“My son has participated in the Hurricanes Elite camp each of the last two summers. He has thoroughly enjoyed it!! All of the coaches are top notch. The power skating is great for the boys. The strength and conditioning work they do is wonderful and teaches them good habits. They also learn about nutrition, and get to eat the same food as the Hurricanes prospects who are also in town. This camp has definitely helped David transition from 16 UAA hockey to making the varsity hockey team at his prep school. Thanks for putting on this great camp for the local kids.”
-- Ed Rosen, hockey parent and USA hockey level 4 coach
“Wow! What an incredible and memorable experience you have put together for these youth hockey players! Sam is having a great time, and I asked him yesterday evening how he would describe the camp in one word -- his word was impressive.”
-- James Thornton, impressed parent
“To have such a large presence of the Hurricanes coaching staff work with the kids is not only unheard of at any other camp, but is truly something these kids will remember for the rest of their lives. Your goal was to create the “premiere camp in the southeast” and I can tell you have the recipe for success moving forward as you are treating these kids like they are real prospects/draft picks.”
-- Rick Daniel, Excited parent.
“Isaiah enjoyed his experience last year. He particularly appreciated working with EXOS and the lectures. Any experience you can give the kids that is different from a regular hockey camp is great. I know we were all fascinated with the eye exercises he brought home last summer. It was definitely a concept of training off our radar. “
-- Michelle Kahn, thankful parent.
