Hurricanes Summerfest Celebration
The Summerfest Celebration is set for Saturday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. at PNC Arena. The event will feature the final practice and skills session of Prospects Development Camp, an autograph session with the camp's participants and a State of the Hurricanes discussion hosted by Canes TV play-by-play announcer John Forslund and featuring Kirk Muller and Ron Francis. The Summerfest Celebration will also include over twenty interactive inflatables, games and experiences, free giveaways, guest speakers from the Hurricanes, appearances by Stormy and the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad, discounted concessions, hockey games and extended hours for The Eye team store.
Parking and admission are free to the general public, and the majority of the event will be held inside PNC Arena, as activities will expand across the first level of the building and more! Fans should park and enter via the East side of the arena.
The Prospects Development Camp practice is scheduled to include 4-on-4 mini-games, a power play session and shootouts.
Autograph wristbands will be distributed starting at 9:00 a.m. on the East side of PNC Arena. Wristbands will be limited to the first 500 patrons (one per person), and the session is scheduled to last one hour. All players from the camp are scheduled to participate, and, due to the time frame, autographs from all players cannot be guaranteed.
The twenty interactive inflatables, games and experiences will include a slide, slap shot booth, obstacle course, moon bounce, velcro wall, bungee run, sports challenge, boxing inflatable, rock wall, joust, mechanical bull, a photo area and more.
The Summerfest Celebration will be the general public's first chance to view available seat locations for the 2013-14 season, which will kick off in October. Fans will have the opportunity to roam the seating bowls and pick out seats for full season ticket packages and 26-game plans.
Hurricanes Summerfest Hockey Clinics
Concurrently with Prospects Development Camp, the Carolina Hurricanes are set to host two youth hockey camps at PNC Arena in mid-July that will be the premiere experience for high level players. In addition, a coaches' clinic will be hosted at the end of the week for coaches of all levels of experience.
The inaugural Canes Elite Players Camp is open to U-18, U-16 and U-14 AAA and AA players. Participants will use the NHL ice and facilities at PNC Arena, and will receive nearly-identical training and instruction from Hurricanes coaches and staff as do the players at the Prospects Development Camp. Participants will receive instruction directly from Head Coach Kirk Muller and his staff of Rod Brind’Amour, Dave Lewis, John MacLean and Greg Stefan.
“As part of Summerfest, we are excited to be able to offer for the first time both an Elite Players Camp and a Power Skating Clinic for exceptional young players, as well as a Coaches’ Clinic for coaches at any level. Kirk Muller and his staff will provide instruction at the Elite Camp and run the Coaches’ Clinic, and their experience and background will make these camps and clinics some of the best in the Southeast,” said Francis.
Players in the U-12 AAA and AA, U-10 AA and U-8 advanced levels can register for the Canes Power Skating Clinic, to be held from July 17-20 at PNC Arena. For one hour per day, participants will receive power skating instruction from elite skating coach Kim Muir. Muir has an extensive background that includes mentoring players from the Hurricanes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.
From July 19-20, hockey coaches from all levels can learn directly from Muller and his staff at the inaugural Canes Coaches’ Clinic. Muller will discuss the proper way to devise a practice plan, teach team systems and offer tips on implementing systems, while the team’s assistant coaches will focus on special teams.
More details and registration information for the Canes Elite Players Camp, Canes Power Skating Clinic and the Canes Coaches’ Clinic can be found here.
Held in conjunction with Hurricanes Summerfest will be the team’s annual Select-A-Seat Event, through which season ticket holders can choose their seats for the upcoming season. School Supply Drive
The Hurricanes are hosting a school supply drive to benefit NC children's homes and literacy programs. The drive will run from Monday, July 15 through the end of Summerfest on Saturday, July 20. Collection bins will be located at the VIP entrance of PNC Arena throughout the week during normal business hours (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) and during Select-a-Seat sessions. Bins will be also placed in the East Priority Lounge during Prospects Development Camp public practices.
Beneficiaries of the drive include Grandfather Home for Children, Genesis Home and the Read and Feed Program. These non-profits work with underserved children and provide them with the essentials of life: either a home or a good meal. The school supply drive strives to ensure the children are sent to school in the fall with all of the supplies that are essential to their education.
