Week 1: July 14-18
Week 2: July 28-August 1
10 and Under: 8:15 a.m. - 3:20 p.m., Super Friday Game: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
The main focus of this camp is to improve your hockey skills by teaching the fundamentals of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting. The finer points of each of those skills include shooting techniques, shot accuracy, puck control, hand-eye coordination, along with skating agility and maneuverability. In addition to on-ice instruction, campers will receive off-ice dry land training daily, which will help equip players with the knowledge of how to properly strengthen and stretch without injuring themselves. A classroom session also included in the camp features video and off-ice teaching to develop the mental aspect and strategy of a player’s game. Players will also be given P.E time, giving them a chance to unwind with their friends in a game of soccer, football or street hockey. A tour of the Carolina Hurricanes official practice facility locker room will also be included for every player.
11 and Older: 9:30 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., Super Friday Game: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This session expands on the fundamentals taught to the younger group. Along with power skating, puck handling, passing and shooting, players will learn proper checking techniques. The clinic will focus on team play, including offensive and defensive zone coverage. In addition to on-ice instruction, campers will receive off-ice dry land training daily. A classroom session also included in the camp features video and off-ice teaching to develop the mental aspect and strategy of a player’s game. Players will also be given P.E time, a chance for them to unwind with their friends in a game of soccer, football or street hockey. Players enrolled in the camp will also have the chance to tour the Carolina Hurricanes official practice facility locker room.
Canes Goaltending Camp: 10:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Week 1 Only!)
The goaltending camp will build a strong foundation for both rookie and veteran goaltenders. The staff will implement the newest ideas in goaltending alongside the time-tested fundamentals to improve enrolled goaltenders’ skating, movement, stance, balance, positioning and overall understanding of the game. Specific save techniques will be covered with an emphasis on the proper use of each piece of equipment for the save. Breakaway management, age-specific puck handling skills, puck tracking, along with screened and deflected shots are situation-specific skills that will be covered throughout the week of camp. Players will also partake in team-building exercises that will be used to improve each goaltender’s ability to be a leader both on and off the ice. This camp is open to goaltenders of all ages!
