Aaron and his wife, Kelly, welcomed their second daughter, Phoebe, on March 23, 2009, joining son Liam (6) and daughter Libby (3)... They spend their summers in Cary, N.C.... Last season, Aaron convinced 14 of his Bruins teammates to shave their heads for Cuts For a Cause, benefiting pediatric oncology... He also purchased 300 tickets to a Bruins game for active military families, and handed out 150 turkeys to less fortunate families at Thanksgiving with his son, Liam... His first youth team was the St. Laurent Arrows in Ottawa and his favorite team was Toronto... His first job was as a chimney sweep... His favorite vacation spot is Paris, favorite television show is Deadliest Catch, and favorite book is The Tunnels of Cu Chi... His favorite sport outside of hockey is football, and his favorite teams are the U. of Michigan and the Detroit Lions... The person in history he would most like to meet is Winston Churchill... If he wasn't playing hockey, he would be the NFL Commissioner... The place he spends the most time in the Triangle is MacGregor Ale House... His favorite former teammate is Marco Sturm... His favorite road arena is TD Garden, favorite road city is Los Angeles and favorite team to play against is Atlanta.

2008-09 SEASON
Completed his 14th NHL season and third with the Boston Bruins... Ranked second among Bruins skaters in blocked shots (124) and third among Bruins skaters in hits (151) despite missing 17 games due to injury... Totaled three goals and seven assists (10 points) and 44 penalty minutes in 65 regular-season games played... Scored his first career shorthanded goal in his 750th career NHL game vs. OTT (3/12)... Scored his second goal of the season vs. FLA (2/24)... Notched an assist and was (+2) at TB (2/22)... Netted his first goal of the season and was a season-high (+3) vs. OTT (1/8)... 2009 PLAYOFFS

CAREER
Is in his 15th year in the NHL, his fifth with the Hurricanes... Acquired July 24, 2009, from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Patrick Eaves and a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft... Originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets with the fifth overall selection in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft... Member of two Stanley Cup championship teams in Detroit (1997, 1998) and one in Carolina (2006).

1990-93: Spent three years at the University of Michigan (CCHA)... Accumulated 20 goals, 31 assists and 263 PIM in 118 games.

1993-94: Rights traded from Winnipeg to Detroit for Paul Ysebaert and future considerations on 6/11/93... Made his NHL debut 10/5 at DAL... His first NHL goal came in his second game at ANA (10/8)... That was the Ducks’ inaugural game and Ward’s goal was the first scored against Anaheim in franchise history... Spent 58 games with Adirondack (AHL), accumulating 16 points (4g, 12a) and 87 PIM.

1994-95: Spent majority of the season with Adirondack, scoring 11 goals, 24 assists and 87 PIM in 76 games... Appeared in one game for Detroit (3/17) vs. VAN, recording an assist.

1995-96: Spent season in Adirondack. In 74 games had five goals, 10 assists and 133 PIM.

1996-97: Completed his full NHL season with Detroit... Scored his first goal of the season vs. HFD (11/4)... Earned his first assist on a shorthanded goal at PHX (11/18)... Made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in Game 2 of the Conference Quarterfinals vs. STL (4/18)... Played in 19 of Detroit's 20 postseason contests to capture his first Stanley Cup.

1997-98: Played 52 games for Detroit... Scored the game-winner in 5-4 win at TB (2/5)... Did not make an appearance in the postseason as the Red Wings won their second consecutive Stanley Cup.

1998-99: Played 60 games for Detroit... Posted then-career highs in games played (60), assists (11) and points (11)... Scored unassisted goal at EDM (11/18)... Appeared in eight playoff games (out of 10) and had one assist.

1999-00: Appeared in just 36 games due to injuries... Played in his 200th NHL game vs. NSH (1/6).

2000-01: Appeared in a then-career-high 73 games... Scored second career game-winning goal vs. NSH (1/24)... Was a healthy extra in Detroit’s six-game Western Conference Quarterfinal loss vs. LA.

2001-02: Set a new career high for points in a season with 14 (3g, 11a)... Was (+4) at BOS (2/28)... Played in his 300th career NHL game vs. CBJ (11/19)... Made his Hurricanes debut (10/5) vs. NYR... Missed two games due to injury/illness (12/12: flu; 3/11: arm)... Played in his fourth playoff season and first with Carolina, skating in all 23 of the Hurricanes' postseason contests... Scored his first career NHL playoff goal in Game 4 of Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at NJ (4/23).

2002-03: Scored his first goal of the season, the overtime game-winner, and earned first-star honors, at ATL (12/20)… Played in his 100th Hurricanes game vs. VAN (11/23)… Missed five games due to injury.

2003-04: Played in his 200th game with the Hurricanes vs. FLA (3/25)... Returned to action after missing nearly seven weeks with a wrist injury and scored a pair of goals at CBJ (3/8) - the first multi-goal game of his NHL career... Missed 29 games due to injury.

2004-05: Joined ERC Ingolstadt of the German league late in the season and tallied three assists and 16 penalty minutes in eight games... Scored one goal, added one assist (2 points) and had 16 penalty minutes in 11 playoff games for ERC Ingolstadt.

2005-06: Established career highs in goals (6), assists (19) and points (25)... Ranked tied for first among team defensemen in goals (6) and third among team defensemen in points (25)... Was selected by his teammates as the team’s nominee for the 2005-06 King Clancy Memorial Trophy... Won the 2005-06 “Good Guy” Award as selected by the Carolina chapter of the PHWA... Scored two goals, including the game-winner, vs. BOS (3/1)... Had surgery to repair a hernia on Jan. 11... Had a four-game point streak (11/27-12/3: 1g, 3a)... Games missed due to injury: 11 (hernia: 1/13-1/31; upper body: 3/21)... Skated in all 25 postseason contests for the Hurricanes, helping the Hurricanes capture their first Stanley Cup... Had two goals and three assists (5 points), including the first goal of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals vs. EDM (6/19).

2006-07: Began the season with the Rangers, posting 13 points (3g, 10a) and 57 penalty minutes in 60 games before being traded to Boston on 2/27 for Paul Mara... Had three points (1g, 2a) and 18 penalty minutes in 20 games for Boston after the trade... Skated in his 600th NHL game at PHI (1/27)... Had a career-high three points (1g, 2a) at PHX (10/28)... Had a career-best five-game point streak (1g, 6a) from 10/21-11/1... Recorded his 100th NHL point with a goal vs. NJ (10/16).

2007-08: Skated in 65 games for the Bruins, totaling 13 points (5g, 8a)... Scored two overtime goals, both vs. PHI (1/12 and 3/15)... Missed 17 games with a concussion, ankle and foot injuries.
