Josef and his wife, Lucie, have two sons, Joe and Jakub and spend their summers in Ceske Budejovic in the Czech Republic... They have a dog named Mailo... Josef’s first youth team was in Ceske Budejovice... His father, Josef, played second-division professional hockey in the Czech Republic, also as a defenseman... His favorite teams growing up were Pittsburgh and his hometown team, Ceske Budejovice, and the player he most emulated was Raymond Bourque... The most played artist on Josef’s iPod is Madonna... His favorite vacation spots are Croatia and Florida, favorite book is Lance Armstrong’s It’s Not About the Bike and favorite meals include chicken, spaghetti and the tradional Czech meal of pork, cabbage and dumplings... Josef’s biggest talent outside of hockey is tennis... He enjoys watching European Cup soccer and cites Ronaldo and Roger Federer as two of his favorite athletes... He would love the chance to go to the White House and meet the President... He wears number 22 because he used to wear number 2 with Pittsburgh and it was unavailable in Carolina... His most memorable goal was his first NHL goal against Tampa Bay because he felt like he was “waiting over a hundred years for that”... His all-time favorite teammate not with the Hurricanes is Sidney Crosby... Josef enjoys working around his house during the off-season and is a trained electrician... 2007-08 SEASON
Spent the majority of the season with Linkoping of the Swedish Elite League (SEL)... Earned eight assists and ranked third on the team in penalty minutes with 74... Played in 50 of Linkoping’s 55 regular-season games... Netted one goal and tallied one assist (2 points) while totaling 39 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games... Linkoping advanced to the Elitserien finals prior to falling to HV-71.... Also played six games with Ceske-Budejovice of the Czech League, his hometown team... Totaled four penalty minutes with Ceske-Budejovice.

CAREER
Completed six NHL seasons, all with Pittsburgh, prior to the 2008-09 season... Totaled seven goals and earned 33 assists (40 points) in 310 career NHL regular-season games, averaging 17:50 of ice time per game

1996-97: Scored three goals and earned two assists (5 points) in 41 games with Ceske-Budejovice in the Czech Junior League

1997-98: Completed his first season of hockey in North America, recording 33 points (9g, 24a) in 67 games with Tri-City of the Western Hockey League (WHL)... Ranked second among Tri-City skaters in penalty minutes with 154
