2012-13 SEASON
Appeared in his first NHL season, skating in four games for the Hurricanes… Spent most of the season with Kitchener (OHL), ranking ninth among OHL defensemen in scoring with 48 points (10g, 38a) in 54 games… Was third among all Kitchener skaters in scoring and fifth on the team in plus/minus (+14)… Also appeared in three regular season American Hockey League (AHL) games with Charlotte, earning two assists… Had 13 multi-point games for Kitchener, including a four-assist game vs. Oshawa (10/19)… Recalled by Carolina on an emergency basis on 2/21, and made his NHL debut that night vs. WPG (2/21), skating 23:51 of ice time… Skated a season-high 25:27 vs. TB (2/23)… Had season highs in shots (3) and hits (2) at WSH (2/26)… Reassigned to Kitchener (OHL) on 2/28… Totaled seven points (3g, 4a) in 10 OHL playoff games as Kitchener knocked off Guelph before falling to London… Recorded his only multi-goal game of the season in the Rangers’ first playoff game vs. Guelph (3/22)… Assigned to Charlotte after Kitchener fell to London in the second round of the OHL playoffs… Made his AHL debut and was (+2) at Peoria (4/16)… Earned his first professional point with an assist at Milwaukee (4/19)… Appeared in all five Calder Cup playoff games for the Checkers, earning a pair of assists… Made his professional playoff debut and earned his first playoff point in Game 1 at Oklahoma City (4/26).

CAREER
Was Carolina’s first round (12th overall) pick in the 2011 NHL Draft… Is in his first full professional season after totaling 220 points (53g, 167a) and 122 penalty minutes in 228 career Ontario Hockey League (OHL) regular-season games with Kitchener… Also had 57 points (12g, 45a) in 53 career OHL playoff games… Has competed internationally for Canada in a number of events… Won a silver medal with Ontario at the 2010 World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Timmins, Ontario… Led Canada in scoring at the 2011 U18 World Junior Championship in Germany with 13 points (4g, 9a) in seven games, and named the tournament’s Top Defenseman… Had five points (1g, 4a) during the four-game Canada-Russia Challenge in Aug. 2012… Earned three points (1g, 2a) in six games for Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship… Prior to beginning his OHL career, played youth hockey for the York Simcoe Express, winning Ontario Minor Hockey Association AAA championships in Bantam (2008) and Peewee (2006)… Was Kitchener’s first-round pick (3rd overall) in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.

2009-10: Ranked second among rookie blueliners and seventh among all OHL rookies with 39 points (6g, 33a)… Was selected to the OHL’s All-Rookie Team… Ranked second among Kitchener rookies and second among Rangers defensemen in scoring… Was named Kitchener’s Most Gentlemanly Player… Made his OHL debut vs. Kingston (9/18)… Earned his first OHL point with an assist vs. Owen Sound (9/25)… Netted his first OHL goal at Belleville (10/17)… Earned his first multi-point game with a three point effort (1g. 2a) at Kingston (11/20)… Ranked third among OHL defensemen in scoring during the 2010 OHL playoffs, helping Kitchener reach the conference final before falling to eventual Memorial Cup champion Windsor in seven games.

2010-11: Led all OHL defensemen in goals (26) and ranked second in scoring (79 points) in 63 games… Was voted into the top three by the league’s Western Conference coaches in the Smartest Player and Best Offensive Defenseman categories… Played in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game… Represented Team OHL in the CHL Subway Super Series against Russia… Was named OHL Defenseman of the Month for October after leading all league blueliners with 18 points (7g, 11a) in 12 games… Had five point efforts with a goal and four assists vs. Erie (10/1) and at London (11/4)… Earned three or more assists in a game six times during the regular-season… Had multi-goal games at Guelph (9/26), at London (10/16) and vs. Guelph (2/8)… Ranked tied for 11th among OHL defensemen in playoff scoring with 11 points (2g, 9a), despite playing just seven postseason contests, as Kitchener fell in the opening round to Plymouth.

2011-12: Ranked tied for third among OHL defensemen in scoring, totaling 54 points (11g, 43a) in 49 games for Kitchener… Was tied for second among league defensemen in assists (43), and earned OHL Second All-Star Team honors… Ranked fourth among all Kitchener skaters in scoring and tied for second in assists… Had 13 multi-point games, including five three-point games and three four-point games… Made the Hurricanes’ roster to open the season, and was a healthy extra for the first four games of the NHL season with the Hurricanes, prior to being returned to Kitchener… Missed 10 games after suffering a concussion from a hit by Tom Kuhnhackl vs. Niagara (11/4)… Had points in 13 of 14 games between 1/15-2/17, including four-point games vs. Kingston (1/15: 1g, 3a) and at Belleville (1/21: 1g, 3a)… Earned four assists in the regular-season finale vs. Erie (3/16)… Led all OHL defensemen in assists (20) during the playoffs, as Kitchener advanced to the conference final before being swept by eventual OHL Champion London… Ranked third among OHL defensemen in playoff points (22), skating in 16 postseason contests… Had points in 12 of 16 playoff games, including eight multi-point games… Earned three assists in Game 4 at Owen Sound (3/28)… Had his second three-point effort of the playoffs with a goal and two assists in Game 3 vs. London (4/22).
