2013-14 Season
Ranked seventh in the OHL in goals (43) and tied for 17th in points (85) during his final season of junior hockey with Guelph… Finished second among Western Conference skaters in four categories of the annual Coaches Poll: smartest player, hardest worker, best body checker and best shootout scorer… Began the season with a 23-game point streak (9/20-11/19: 20g, 20a), the second-longest point streak in the OHL for the season… Had nine multi-goal games, including three hat tricks: 10/13 at Kingston, 10/22 at Kitchener and 3/12 vs. Kitchener… Had seven multi-assist games, including a career-high four assists vs. Sarnia (3/14)… Earned at least one point in 50 of his 58 games played, including multiple points in 20 games… Was named OHL PLayer of the Week after totaling eight points (5g, 3a) in three games from 10/21-10/27… Scored two goals and added three assists for a career-high, five-point game at Mississauga (11/19), the final game of his season-opening point streak… Totaled 12 points (6g, 6a) in 12 OHL playoff games as Guelph captured the OHL championship… Served an eight-game suspension as a result of a checking-to-the-head incident in Game 3 at Plymouth (3/25)… Finished the OHL playoffs on a six-game point streak (4/25-5/9: 3g, 4a)… Scored one goal and added four assists (5 points) during the Memorial Cup in London, Ont., as Guelph advanced to the championship game before falling to Edmonton.

Career
Selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (47th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Carolina on 4/3/13… Completed his junior hockey career with 172 points (93g, 79a) and 179 penalty minutes in 227 games with Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL)… Is the younger brother of Colorado Avalanche forward Jamie McGinn and Philadelphia Flyers forward Tye McGinn… Was coached by former Carolina forward Scott Walker in Guelph… Played for the Guelph Junior Storm prior to beginning his OHL career in 2010-11… Had 14 points (10g, 4a) and 38 penalty minutes during his rookie OHL season in 2010-11… Made his OHL debut vs. Owen Sound (9/24/10)… Earned his first OHL point with an assist vs. Sault Ste.
