Selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (47th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Carolina on 4/3/13… Completed his junior hockey career with 172 points (93g, 79a) and 179 penalty minutes in 227 games with Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL)… Is the younger brother of Colorado Avalanche forward Jamie McGinn and Philadelphia Flyers forward Tye McGinn… Was coached by former Carolina forward Scott Walker in Guelph… Played for the Guelph Junior Storm prior to beginning his OHL career in 2010-11… Had 14 points (10g, 4a) and 38 penalty minutes during his rookie OHL season in 2010-11… Made his OHL debut vs. Owen Sound (9/24/10)… Earned his first OHL point with an assist vs. Sault Ste. 2014-15: Completed his first full professional season with Charlotte (AHL), ranking third on the team and first among rookies with 15 goals… Was sixth on the team with 27 points and tied for fourth with three power-play goals… Scored on two of three shootout attempts… Recorded his first professional point with an assist at Chicago (10/12)… Dropped the gloves with Andreas Athanasiou for his first pro fight vs. Grand Rapids (10/18)… Scored his first professional goal in a 5-1 win at Iowa (10/24)… Missed the 11/2 game vs. Hamilton as the result of a checking to the head suspension earned 10/31 vs. Hamilton… Recorded a career-high three points (2g, 1a), including his first multi-goal outing and first power-play goal, at Oklahoma City (11/21)… Had his second multi-goal game of the season by striking twice vs. Iowa (12/18)… Extended his goal/point streak to a career-best four games (5g, 1a) with a power-play tally at Toronto (2/22)… Scored with 3:39 remaining in regulation to record his first career game-winning goal and the Checkers’ last-ever goal at Time Warner Cable Arena vs. Rockford (4/12).
