The Carolina Hurricanes took advantage of David Krejci's absence from the Boston Bruins' lineup while snapping their season-opening skid last week. Krejci is doubtful for Tuesday night's rematch at the TD Garden, but Tyler Seguin might help the Bruins finish with a different result. Krejci, the Bruins' top-line center, injured his "core area" during a practice last Tuesday, one day before the Hurricanes ended their 0-2-1 start with a 3-2 home victory. Seguin, Krejci's replacement on the first line, netted his first goal of the season in the third period of that game, but Boston (2-3-0) also allowed Anthony Stewart and Jiri Tlusty to score during the final 20 minutes. The Bruins bounced back with a 3-2 shootout victory in Chicago on Saturday - coach Claude Julien's 300th NHL win - as Seguin converted the lone shootout goal and assisted on Nathan Horton's tying goal in the third period. "We've got to start building from somewhere, being down, battling back into the game," goaltender Tim Thomas said. "We needed the win. We needed to feel good going forward, something to carry over on." Seguin, who has a team-best five points, will next try to help Boston top the Hurricanes (2-2-1) during the first of four consecutive home games. "That line with Tyler in the middle (of Horton and Milan Lucic) is starting to build some chemistry," Julien said. "It's interesting to watch. It gives us a good opportunity to see what lies ahead for Tyler and what he's going to bring to this team down the road. He's only going to get better. It's been a great opportunity for him." Carolina is on a four-game road trip, which began with a 4-3 win over Buffalo on Friday. After the Sabres tied the game with 2:21 remaining, Jeff Skinner scored the tiebreaking power-play goal 57 seconds later. "It was a big win for us, a character win is the best way to describe it," Skinner said. The Hurricanes killed off all six Buffalo power plays during that game after blanking the Bruins on five tries last week. Boston is 1 for 20 on the man advantage this season. The Bruins, though, have won five of the last six regular-season home meetings with Carolina, and Zdeno Chara's first career hat trick keyed a 7-0 rout in the most recent matchup there Jan. 17. Krejci assisted on two of the defenseman's goals and has 14 points in his past 13 games - not including playoffs - against the Hurricanes, with Boston winning 11 of those. Skinner, who has a team-high six points, has recorded at least one in every game this season except for the win over the Bruins. He had a goal and two assists in four matchups last season en route to claiming the Calder Trophy. Boston might get some help in stopping him with defenseman Adam McQuaid possibly ready to return from a neck injury, which he suffered during the loss in Raleigh. In the rematch, Bruins fans will get the chance to welcome back Tomas Kaberle, who signed a three-year deal worth $12.75 million with Carolina in July. The defenseman had 11 assists for Boston during last season's playoffs after being acquired in a trade with Toronto on Feb. 18. Kaberle is a minus-5 this season, and his assist against Boston remains his only point. Teammate Eric Staal is also struggling. He's been held without a point in four of five games and is an NHL-worst minus-8.
