GAME: Buffalo Sabres (19-25-5-1) at Carolina Hurricanes (16-22-9-2).TIME: Sunday, 1:30 p.m. EST.
The Buffalo Sabres hope to end yet another miserable road trip on a high note as they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Sabres, who have just one winning road trip this season, are 1-3 on their five-game trip, including Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. The loss left the Sabres at 8-16-2-0 on the road this season, and with just one win in their last eight games away from home.
The Sabres have scored just seven goals on the trip, which includes a 3-2 win at Boston on Thursday.
Ales Kotalik scored Saturday for the Sabres, who are last in the Northeast Division with 44 points.
"I think we might have played our best game in this building in a long time from effort to the standpoint of controlling play," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. "It's tough when you come out of a game like this and have nothing to show for it."
Kotalik tied the game at 1:03 of the second, scoring on a slap shot from outside the left circle.
"It's frustrating," said Jean-Pierre Dumont, who assisted on Kotalik's goal. "We outchecked them, and scoring chances were in our favor, too, but the puck didn't want to go in. We kept attacking the net and had some great scoring chances."
The Hurricanes have dropped three of four, including Friday's 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders as Carolina coach Peter Laviolette faced his former team for the first time.
Laviolette, who took the Islanders to the playoffs each of the previous two seasons before being fired in June, had little to say about the reunion.
"It's just business," he said. "It's just disappointing not to get the points."
Sean Hill had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes. Justin Williams, acquired from Philadelphia on Tuesday, added a power-play goal in the third period. Ron Francis assisted on Williams' goal and played in his 1,700th NHL game.
