GAME: Carolina Hurricanes (17-24-9-2) at Detroit Red Wings (29-15-7-2).

TIME: Saturday, 7 p.m. EST.

The Carolina Hurricanes have lost their last 12 regular season games at Joe Louis Arena.

They'll look to end that drought as they conclude their season series with the Central Division-leading Detroit Red Wings.

Carolina beat the Red Wings on their home ice in Game 1 of the 2002 Stanley Cup finals, but hasn't won in Detroit in the regular season since Nov. 14, 1989, when the Hurricanes were still the Hartford Whalers.

Carolina comes into this contest with a season-high, three-game road winning streak.

The Hurricanes, however, lost 5-3 at home to the Washington Capitals on Thursday for their fifth straight defeat at the RBC Center, and third in their last four games overall.

Carolina is 10 points behind the New York Islanders for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Justin Williams, who had one goal and one assist in his first five games with the Hurricanes since he was acquired in a Jan. 20 trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, scored twice in the second period on Thursday.

"It doesn't give me any solace," Williams said. "Instead of finding ways to win games, we're finding ways to lose them and we're in a playoff race."

Detroit, which has a nine-point lead over both the St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators in the Central, improved to 2-1-2 in its last five games with a 5-2 home win over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Steve Yzerman assisted on Tomas Holmstrom's goal, which put Detroit ahead 4-2 midway through the third period, to move past Mario Lemieux for sixth place on the NHL's career scoring list with 1,702 points.

"I can't even count that much," Holmstrom said. "That's a lot of points. It's incredible."
